Basketball Court Paving

Before installing a court, permits should be acquired from the appropriate governmental agencies. This is most often done through the Planning Department for zoning and grading requirements. The Zoning department must approve of an installation site before any final permits are granted, or renovations can start on the designated area for courts. Aside from acquiring permits, a soil examination is also required to ensure that an area is suitable for paving. Tree and other vegetation removals along with preventing future flora growth will provide the means by which procreant support in the pavement can be avoided and strengthen its stability. Topsoil should be removed and replaced with new soil before grading occurs.

Basketball courts are usually built-in half-size residential yards or full courts at tighter outdoor parks and school playgrounds. However, any size for the project is viable as long as it meets our client's needs.

A typical asphalt basketball court subbase is composed of four to six inches of gravel that is compacted. This layer is followed with one inch of asphalt and allowed to rest for two weeks before being covered with a top coat. After the surface has cured, high and low areas are found by flooding the surface. The low areas are then repaired with a patch binder mix. A resurfacing product is applied twice, followed by color that matches the particular model of the basketball court.

Basketball Court Paving Cost

Asphalt is a popular choice for residential basketball courts because asphalt typically requires fewer repairs when extreme heat or cold occurs. The cost of asphalt ranges from $3 to $4 per square foot, which equates to an average of around $14,000 or more for a full court. Routine installation includes gravel, excavation and leveling as needed, base coat/top coat sealant and can come with backfilling fees on top.

Tennis Court Paving

When planning to create a tennis court, landscape plans must also be submitted to the local zoning commission, just like the way it is required for installing basketball court pavings. The plans will detail any grading necessary, tree removal, and drainage needs- these requirements vary depending on the locality.

As with all sports, there are certain procedures acknowledged as standards for a long-lasting and good playing tennis court. One such procedure is:

Pavement for tennis and basketball courts should be carefully analyzed to ensure the court's lines are level, without extreme incline or decline of materials. The dimensions usually have a 78' by 36' layout with a base layer of compacted gravel followed by 1" of asphalt pavement that is usually finished in green or red acrylic color. White markings can often come on 30 days after construction.

Tennis courts that are well constructed can be functional for nearly 20 years with quick maintenance of asphalt cracks or depressions. This includes the white playing lines, plus if the court has a color finish, it too will need upkeep as it fades.

Resurfacing an Asphalt Tennis Court Paving

A tennis court's condition deteriorates over time without regular maintenance. The color fades, cracks appear on the surface, and low or uneven areas develop - not only does this look bad, but it also makes for an unsafe game with an increased probability of tripping if you walk near one.

Paving tennis courts is expensive, so keeping them in good shape throughout the life of the court requires plenty of maintenance. Using some inexpensive techniques and materials will help extend their life span. Most hard courts need resurfacing every four to eight years. They are resurfaced by surveying the court for damage, filling cracks and applying acrylic coat.

When the surface is compacted and level, it receives a final layer of paint before new lines are added. The average cost for this project spans between $4,000 and $8,000 but can be drastically higher if extensive repairs or large courts need to be leveled out.
